Our Philosophy

The fire's lit.
The ale's poured.
Your plate's on its way.

We cook what the land gives us. Our menus change with the seasons because the best ingredients don't wait — they arrive when they're ready, and so do we. From Derbyshire lamb slow-cooked until it falls, to trout pulled from Peak District streams that morning.

“We're not trying to be fancy. We're trying to be honest. Good food, good fire, good company — that's the whole point.”

Our Story

A Proper Village Pub

Nestled on Market Street in the heart of Hayfield, we sit at the gateway to the Peak District's most dramatic landscapes. Stone walls, low beams, a fire that's been burning since before you arrived.

We're a village pub that happens to have Michelin-recognised food. Unpretentious, welcoming, and deeply rooted in this place. Whether you've just descended Kinder Scout soaked through, or you're settling in for a long Sunday lunch — there's a seat with your name on it.
